GCSE results 25th August 2011

HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF A* AND A GRADES

Students and teachers were overjoyed today with the fantastic results in the school's GCSE examinations.

17.5% of grades were A* and 24% A which is a record for the school.  It is a credit to all students that we have a record number of top grades with year and  have achieved in other years, it is the best overall results we have ever had.

Parents were also delighted with results, Mrs Burman stated that 'Emma would never have gained results like her straight A* and A grades anywhere else'.  Mrs Aitchison, current PTA Secretary and Event Co-ordinator, was thrilled with daughter Charlotte's amazing results.

When asked her thoughts, Mrs Wright, Head of Year 11, had the following to say:

I knew the results were going to be good – but I was blown away by yesterday’s GCSE results!

Year 11 achieved a bumper crop of A* and A grades, 41% of their GCSEs were awarded at these two highest grades, compared to a national average of 23.2%.

The triple science students excelled themselves. Individual Biology, Chemistry and Physics GCSE results were outstanding – 82% of papers were awarded A and A*.

69% of students achieved an A* or A for their Mathematics GCSE. For those students that have been at Sherrardswood since year 7, the figure is even higher, 72%.

A combination of a very bright year group and a very strong work ethic paid off.  Behind the statistics there are some fantastic personal achievements:

  • James Wright achieved 7 A*s, 2 As and a B, a really impressive set of results. His hard work and determination were certainly rewarded!
  • Emma Burman achieved 5 A*s and 4 As. Her mum was over the moon and said a big thank you for all the support that Emma has received at Sherrardswood.
  • Holly Meadows and Ella Blyth-Morter both received A*s in Art after the Asssessor from the board awarded their final exam pieces 100%!
  • 4 students; Emma Curtis, Pippa Davies, Charlie Rounds and Josh Rowell achieved 100% (600/600) in their maths GCSE, with Sarah Aitchison (598/600) and Michaela Christoforou (597/600) close behind.
  • Ben Lanza, Charlie Rounds, Josh Rowell, Michaela Christoforou all achieved 8 As and A*s and Pippa Davies got 9!

I have been the head of year for this form group since they joined in Year 7 and was very lucky that they have always found it cool to be clever and encouraged each other to work hard; a highly competitive class!

Students even exceeded their own expectations, Will Hanson’s face when he saw his A* in French was a picture and I will never forget Lily’s reaction when she opened her envelope and was presented with a string of As and Bs. Tessa Reid also achieved fantastic results, including 4A*s and 3As.

Obviously we can’t list everyone’s results, but Year 11 as a whole should be incredibly proud of themselves. I know I am, and I know all the other staff are too!
