Students have a free choice of any four A Levels. All of the subjects offered at GCSE are available at A level, as well as Further Mathematics, Accounting, Economics, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, BTec Travel & Tourism, and Music Technology.
Many students recall the shift from GCSE to A level as one of the greatest hurdles they experienced in their academic carreers. From 10 or 11 subjects, students focus on only 3 or 4 subjects. Students have more time to plan and structure their own way of working and this is important due to the much higher demands compared to the GCSE syllabus. Our emphasis in the Sixth Form years is therefore in encouraging increased responsibility, independent work and self-motivation.
Our experienced teaching staff as well as form tutors and pastoral leaders guide students successfully through these academic and personal challenges. By the time our students reach the end of the Upper Sixth at Sherrardswood, they will be well-prepared for life beyond school.
Our Careers and UCAS advice is exceptional. As a small school, we truly know our students and their interests which helps us to not only guide them towards university courses, further study or industry apprenticeships that are perfect for them, but enables us to write in depth, personal and tailored references that truly reflect the students' strengths. Due to the guidance given, most of our students successfully secure their first choice university.
