Sixth Form

Sherrardswood Sixth Formers are an important part of our school community. We expect them to model a sense of responsibility, an interest in learning and an understanding of the value of service and team work.

Our students study GCE AS and A2 courses in an industrious but yet informal atmosphere. Small classes and flexible classroom approaches mean that teachers quickly get to know individual strengths and weaknesses and programmes of study are tailored accordingly.

Teachers monitor each student’s progress through a system of detailed half-termly reviews and they help students set meaningful and achievable targets for improvement.

In return for the greater degree of independence that we give our Sixth Form students, we expect them to set high standards in their academic work, their behaviour, their dress and their moral values.

Academic development goes hand-in-hand with personal development and, as young people approaching their independent adult life, our Sixth Formers are asked to take on extra responsibilities in the school. These may involve working closely with younger forms, arranging assemblies and charity work or running the School Council.

In conjunction with the Hertfordshire Careers Service and the Independent School Careers Service, we provide our Sixth Formers with an extensive programme of careers advice and assistance with university choices.
