This week in Year One, we have been looking at Winter as part of our science topic of Seasons. We reminded ourselves of the four seasons and talked about the different months that make up Winter. We thought about how the weather changes in winter: we need to wear different clothes, the trees are bare and the heating goes on. We looked at the weather outside and noticed that it is getting colder, the days are getting shorter and it is often dark before we get home. We have also had to scrape ice off our cars in the mornings before we go to school!
We then created our own winter trees winding wintery coloured wool to create an icicle effect. We needed to make sure the wool wound around different sections so it didn’t all clump in the same place. We have used these trees to help decorate our Christmas door and will continue our work on Winter next week by linking this topic to the film ‘The Snowman’, based on the beloved Raymond Briggs book.
