A Matter of Pressure

What would happen if you pierced a Ziploc bag full of water with a pencil? Would you expect the water to pour out? Would it matter where in the bag you pierce? Does the size or sharpness of the pencil influence the result? How about how forcefully you inserted the pencil into the bag? In science this week, Year 6 tested various hypotheses and predictions to this effect.

Our findings were fascinating and Year 6 want to encourage you to try this experiment in your own home! The year group were so enthused by their results that they have developed further hypotheses to test next lesson. Will the material of the bag influence our findings?  Year 6 intend to repeat the experiment again using a paper bag, a bin liner, a cardboard box and a balloon. We look forward to presenting our interesting findings in our written report
