About Sherrardswood
Founded in 1928, Sherrardswood is an independent, non-selective, co-educational school for children aged 2 to 18, set within 25 acres of beautiful Hertfordshire parkland.
No child gets lost in the crowd
In a big school, it is easy for a child to slip quietly to the back. Confidence fades before anyone notices, potential goes unspotted, and a worried child stops putting their hand up. We built Sherrardswood to be the opposite of that.
We are an all-through school where children are known by name, not by number, at every stage from age 2 to 18. Teachers notice the quiet child as quickly as the loud one. Talent is spotted early and stretched; a wobble is caught before it becomes a problem; and no voice goes unheard.
It is what we mean by our "No Hiding Place" promise: no child overlooked, no potential left undiscovered, every child known. That is not a slogan — it is the reason our results sit above expectation, achieved with children of all abilities.
One School. One Journey.
Many families join us when their children are just two years old and remain with us through to A-Levels. This seamless journey provides continuity, stability and a strong sense of belonging throughout every stage of a child's education — with no 11+ to sit and no anxious move to a new school along the way.
Our Nursery offers an exceptional start to school life, combining specialist teaching, Forest School, outdoor learning and a nurturing environment where curiosity and confidence flourish. Every Nursery child is guaranteed a place in Reception, allowing children to continue their educational journey within a familiar and supportive community.
As pupils progress through the Prep School, Senior School and Sixth Form, they benefit from outstanding teaching, individual support and a wealth of opportunities across academics, sport, music, drama, leadership and enrichment.
Exceptional Outcomes for Every Child
We are proud to achieve outstanding outcomes with children of all abilities. Our A-Level value added is significantly above the national average, and ahead of other local independent schools — while our results are strong across the full range of abilities.
These achievements are not driven by selection. They are the result of knowing every child, understanding how they learn and providing the right balance of support, challenge and encouragement to help them succeed. We measure ourselves by how far a child travels with us, not by how able they were the day they arrived.
Above all, Sherrardswood is a community where every child is known, challenged and valued.
