Sixth Form

Sixth Form at Sherrardswood

Sherrardswood Sixth Form is a purposeful, ambitious community where students are encouraged to excel academically while growing in confidence, independence and character. As role models within the school, Sixth Form students take on both privilege and responsibility — a balance they embrace with pride.

Whether students have progressed through Sherrardswood or joined us at Sixth Form, they quickly feel welcomed into an inclusive and supportive environment. With strong relationships, personalised guidance and high academic expectations, every student is supported to thrive and to prepare confidently for life beyond school. Academic Pathways

Students at Sherrardswood Sixth Form benefit from exceptional flexibility. With a choice of 27 A Level subjects and three Level 3 BTEC pathways, most students study three or four subjects, carefully selected to reflect their strengths, interests and future ambitions.

We recognise that no two academic journeys are the same. For students with non-traditional or more individual pathways, bespoke programmes can be designed to ensure they are fully supported and appropriately challenged.

Alongside all GCSE subjects continuing to A Level, students can also choose from an extended range including Further Mathematics, Economics, Psychology, Politics, Sociology, Accounting, Ancient History and Music Technology, as well as BTEC Health and Social Care, Applied Science and Sport. This breadth allows every Sixth Former to build a pathway that genuinely suits them.

Enrichment & UCAS-Boosting Opportunities

To enhance academic profiles and support progression to higher education, Sixth Form students can take part in a range of enrichment opportunities, including:

  • Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

  • Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

  • Sports Leadership Award

These opportunities develop independent thinking, leadership and wider skills, while also contributing valuable UCAS points.

Students are also encouraged to take on leadership roles across the school. Opportunities include becoming a Prefect, joining the Sixth Form Leadership Team, and acting as mentors and role models for younger pupils — experiences that build confidence, communication skills and responsibility.

Experiences Beyond the Classroom

Life in the Sixth Form extends well beyond academic study. Students enjoy a varied programme of shared experiences designed to strengthen friendships, teamwork and a sense of belonging, including:

  • Residential trips to France

  • Urban theme parks

  • Bowling and high-energy activity days

  • Winter Wonderland visits

  • Annual Proms and Winter Balls

These experiences help create lasting memories and a strong Sixth Form community.

Future-Ready Guidance

Our Future-Ready PSHE programme equips students with essential life skills, including independent living, personal finance, wellbeing and healthy relationships. In Year 13, students also take part in our popular “Cooking on a Budget” course, providing practical preparation for university and independent life.

With outstanding pastoral care and highly personalised academic and careers guidance, many of our Sixth Form students progress to prestigious universities and competitive courses. We aim to develop young people who are confident, compassionate and fully prepared for the next stage of their lives.

What the ISI Says

“In discussion, pupils were keen to point to the individualised support and encouragement they receive both from teachers and tutors as key contributory factors to their excellent academic progress.”

What Our Students and Parents Say

“Mrs Wright showed me around the school, looked into me and offered me a chance to finally achieve my dreams. She saw me not for what I had been on paper, but for who I could become. It remains the kindest act anyone has ever done for me.”
– Sixth Form student

“Our daughter flourished at Sherrardswood and has become quietly self-assured. She is predicted top grades and holds an offer from a Russell Group university. This is beyond what we ever dreamed possible, and Sherrardswood has helped her fully realise her potential.”
