Sherrardswood School is seeking an inspiring and enthusiastic Drama Teacher to join our vibrant department on a one-year maternity cover. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop Drama across the school, delivering engaging lessons and contributing to a rich programme of performances and productions.

About the Role and You

Contract type: Full-time, Maternity Cover

Working pattern: Monday to Friday

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Start date: Sep 2026

As a Drama Teacher, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching and maintaining the school’s strong reputation for excellence in Drama. You will inspire pupils to develop confidence, creativity and performance skills within a positive and supportive learning environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching Drama across the school, from Prep through to Key Stage 3 and GCSE
  • Planning and delivering engaging, practical and performance-based lessons
  • Preparing pupils for performances, productions and school events
  • Supporting and leading extracurricular activities, including Drama clubs and productions
  • Creating a positive and inclusive environment where pupils feel confident to express themselves
  • Monitoring, assessing and reporting on pupil progress
  • Contributing to the wider life of the school, including events and performances

This role offers variety and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a dynamic and creative department.

About You :

We are looking for a teacher who combines strong subject knowledge with a genuine passion for Drama and performance. You will bring:

  • A degree in Drama or a related subject
  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE)
  • Experience teaching Drama across relevant Key Stages
  • A passion for performance and extracurricular involvement
  • Strong classroom management and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to working within a team
