Sixth Form at Sherrardswood
Sixth Form study marks an important transition in a student’s educational journey. At Sherrardswood, teaching becomes more specialised, more discussion-based and increasingly independent, while still offering the structure and support students need to succeed.
Our flexible Sixth Form curriculum allows students to choose three or four A Levels, or a combination of A Levels and BTEC pathways, with no restrictive option blocks. This enables students to build a programme that reflects their individual strengths, interests and future ambitions. All GCSE subjects continue at A Level, alongside an extended range including Further Mathematics, Economics, Psychology, Politics, Sociology, Music Technology and Applied Science.
As students move from studying a broad range of subjects at GCSE to specialising in fewer areas, they are encouraged to take greater responsibility for their learning. We place strong emphasis on independent study skills, time management and self-motivation, preparing students for the academic demands of Sixth Form and life beyond school.
Small class sizes ensure personalised teaching, meaningful discussion and tailored academic support, while dedicated study and social spaces create a calm, focused environment that feels very different from large schools and sixth form colleges.
Alongside academic study, students benefit from specialist UCAS and careers guidance, enrichment opportunities, leadership roles and pastoral support focused on confidence, resilience and independence. Whether students are aiming for university, an apprenticeship or employment, we ensure they are fully prepared for their next steps.
Student Experience
“Joining Sherrardswood Sixth Form completely changed my confidence. The small classes meant teachers really understood how I learned, and the support helped me feel ready for university and life beyond school. I felt known, supported and encouraged to aim higher.”
